Changelog v1.47: Finding people

`With our latest release, Skilltype is evolving from a platform for training, to one also used for networking and collaboration. While many of our skill needs can be met by a resource or an event, sometimes it’s easier just to speak with an expert who can serve as a consultant, coach or study buddy. And everyone knows that the main value of attending conferences is not the presentations, but who you’ll meet in the hallways in between.

Introducing People Search

Skilltype’s search results now features people.

Finding the right person at the right time is made simple with our new search functionality, whether that’s someone to learn with, or someone to work with. It leverages our controlled vocabulary approach to find people across your networks with a specific combination of skills. We can also see who across our network is currently learning about skills we are interested in. Check it out and let us know what you think.

People in Topic Hubs

Skilltype’s topic hubs now showcase other Skilltype users currently learning the topic.

Another place you’ll begin to see people from your network is across our topic hubs. With several hundred of these across the platform, this is a convenient way to see who else is learning a topic alongside you across your network.

How it works

Exposing people data throughout the platform doesn’t change our privacy policy. The people who can see your data remain the same that had visibility since the beginning, albeit in different areas, including the following. Current members of your organizations will appear in search results, along with members of organizations that belong to consortia your organization belong to. This second circle mimics the functionality one would expect from your consortial email listservs, but with a more sophisticated targeting layer that enables you to find the right people without spamming the wrong ones.

As we evaluate opportunities to continue connecting people through Skilltype, we want to hear your feedback. Drop us a note at success@skilltype.com with your ideas!
